From 1994 to 2004, the fourth generation of the Ford Mustang was a unique generation. 1994 was a unique year because it was the Ford Mustang's 30 year anniversary. The '94 model was built on the Fox platform, but on a new version. This was a completely redesigned vehicle with around seventy percent of the original parts replaced with new mustang parts.

The 1995 model was the last model to use a 5.0 liter V8. The new versions of the Ford Mustang incorporated a 4.6L V8 modular engine. This engine was able to get up to about 305 horsepower. In 1997, Ford introduced their PATS system, or Passive Anti-Theft System.

Power was once again upgraded in the GT version of the 1998 model, but there were very few changes otherwise. In 1999 however, everything changed for the Mustang. In fact, many suspected that this was yet again the launch of a new generation of Mustangs, but it was still built on the SN-95 platform and was part of the fourth generation. At the turn of the century, Ford released 300 units of the SVT Mustang Cobra R, with 385 horsepower. The 2004 model was the end of the fourth generation, and the 40^th anniversary edition of the Mustang GT convertible, with Ford celebrating 300 million cars produced in their history of production.
